National Techniquest Science CompetitionFour year eight pupils at Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni are celebrating winning a prestigious national science competition held at Techniques in Cardiff Bay . Myfanwy Gulliver, Megan Dibble, Catherine Lindsey and Caitlin Jenkins, all year 8 pupils won the highest score in the history of the competition, and as Welsh champions they will now travel to London in order to participate in the British competition held in the new year. The girls produced a project on Vitamin C that is to found in fruits, and they thoroughly enjoyed the experiments as they describe themselves as “fruit junkies”! Catherine, commented, ”We were delighted and surprised to win the competition because at times our experiments seemed to be very complicated but we managed to get there in the end. It was a worthwhile project and very interesting to appreciate how important Vitamin C should be in the diets of everyone, but unfortunately it is not! Winning the competition also means we will get a day off in order to go to the finals in London , which is also a pleasing bonus!”
