Bu brwydro brwd ymysg cerddorion ifanc ledled Bwrdeistref Cyngor Caerffili i hawlio teitl, ‘Cerddor Cyfoes Ifanc y Flwyddyn 2006’.

Enillydd y cwbl oedd y gantores Aimee Daniel, 13 mlwydd oed, disgybl yn Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni. Bu i’r Maer, Cyng. Elizabeth Aldworth, gyflwyno’r tlws i Aimee yn ystod y digwyddiad. Bu iddi dderbyn siec am £100, a swm cyfatebol i’r ysgol.

Cynhelir y digwyddiad yn Neuadd y Gweithwyr, Bedwas ar Ddydd Sadwrn, 11eg o Dachwedd. Trwy gydol y diwrnod fe gystadlodd y disgyblion yn y rowndiau rhagbrofol cyn symud ymlaen i’r rownd derfynol. Enillwyr y categorïau amrywiol oedd:

Melissa Davies (Ysgol Gyfun Trecelyn)

Aimee Daniel (Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni)

Lewis Pettican (Ysgol Gyfun Martin Sant)

Greig Halliday (Ysgol Lewis, Pengam)

Geraint Williams (Ysgol Lewis, Pengam)

Derbyniodd y pum enillydd siec am £35 i’w hunain ac un arall i’w hysgolion penodol.

Dywedodd Cyng. Aldworth, “Fe hoffwn longyfarch Aimee ar ei llwyddiant a phob cystadleuydd arall yng nghystadleuaeth eleni am eu perfformiadau gwefreiddiol. Mae’r digwyddiad hwn yn gyfle gwych i’r awdurdod gydnabod y bobl ifanc dalentog hyn a braint oedd bod yn rhan o’r achlysur arbennig hwn.”

Nododd beirniad y digwyddiad, Viv Lock, bod safon uchel iawn i’r ddawn gerddorol yn y gystadleuaeth eleni hefyd.

Mae’r rhan fwyaf o bobl yn gyfarwydd gyda chystadleuaeth flynyddol, ‘Cerddor Ifanc y Flwyddyn’, ond ‘ Cerddor Ifanc Cyfoes y Flwyddyn’ yw digwyddiad gwahanol sy’n cael ei drefnu er mwyn ymateb i’r galw cynyddol am diwtoriaeth gitâr, drymiau a’r llais yn ysgolion lleol.

Llongyfarchiadau mawr Aimee!

CAERFFILI YOUNG CONTEMPORARY MUSICIAN OF THE YEAR 2006

Young musicians from across the Caerphilly County Borough battled it out to claim the title of Schools' Young Contemporary Musician of the Year 2006.

The overall winner was vocalist Aimee Daniel, aged 13, a pupil at Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni. The Mayor, Cllr Elizabeth Aldworth, presented the trophy to Aimee at the event. She also received a cheque for £100.

The event took place at Bedwas Workingmen’s Hall on Saturday 11th November. Throughout the day the pupils competed in preliminary rounds before progressing to the finals. The winners of the various categories were:

Drums

Melissa Davies (Newbridge Comprehensive School)

Singing

Aimee Daniel (Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni)

Guitar

Lewis Pettican (St Martins Comprehensive School)

Bass Guitar

Greig Halliday (Lewis School, Pengam)

Composition

Geraint Williams (Lewis School, Pengam)

The five winners each received a cheque for £35 for themselves and another for their respective schools.

Cllr Aldworth said, “I’d like to congratulate Aimee on her success and all the other entrants in this year’s competition for their impressive performances. This event is an excellent opportunity for the authority to recognise these talented young people and it was a real pleasure to be involved in such a special occasion.”

The adjudicator at the event, Viv Lock, also commented on the very high standard of musicianship in this year’s competition.

Most people are familiar with the annual 'Young Musician of the Year' competition, but the ‘Contemporary Young Musician of the Year’ is an alternative annual event which is organised in response to the increasing demand for tuition in guitar, drums and vocals in local schools.
